5th Grade Fun Lab
DIY Microscope
Our 5th Grade students participated in the first Science Fun program of the new school year. They had the opportunity to build their own microscopes, which they did with much excitement and success. Students used their self-created microscopes to view samples of plant cells, pond water, and other items of their own choosing. The 5th graders were most surprised to learn that a Stanford University professor recently built a microscope out of inexpensive items - just like they did - and his invention is actually saving lives of people all over the world. They were able to watch the professor demonstrate his invention in a Ted Talk: "Manu Prakash: A 50-cent microscope that folds like origami" on TED.com. We have many young scientists at Shakerag who are learning that their efforts can make a difference in the world around them! Science Force depends on parent volunteers, and we would love to have you join us! If you would like to become a Science Fun volunteer, please email us at [email protected]

2nd Grade Fun Lab
Thigmotropism & Phototropism
Our scientist planted pinto beans in a cup with a straw and made hypothesis related to the growth of the plant.
They also created a maze inside a box with a small hole and predicted how the plant will be growing inside the box. We shared stories to apply the concepts learned at the lab. Now lets wait and see if our hypothesis become true. |
Kindergarten Fun Lab
Sink and Float
Our scientist explored the concepts of sink and float with play dough boats, oranges, dancing raisings and different materials.
4th Grade Fun lab
DIY AnemometerOur 4th grade students created their own anemometers and measured wind speeds with them. Also they learn how wind affects in our lives and how powerful it could be.
